In the second of my occasional posts following the Danbury based CT wreckers and their build up to their inaugural season in the IWFL (Independant women’s Football League) I found myself fixated by everyone’s commitment to getting it right.
In a previous life, when coaching was my living a colleague of mine was always telling me that repetition is the key to development. He was right of course but repetition means nothing if the practice is ill thought out, is lacking in inspiration or fails to meet the needs of the players. Last night the Wreckers practiced with intensity and although there was a ton of repetition their concentration never faltered.
I hope these images do their commitment justice. Let me know what you think and thanks for reading
Despite the unseasonable weather here in the Hudson Valley I thought it was time to share a couple of winter images from my archives. They were taken in Derbyshire, England on New Years Day, 2010. I got up early and spent a couple of peaceful hours roaming around the moorlands on the western border of my home town, Chesterfield.
The quiet of the Winter is surely the most beautiful thing in the world
This weekend will see America shut down as it goes into Superbowl mode. The Giants and the Patriots will fight to the death – well not really – for the privilege of being able to be named the 46th winners of the coveted trophy. Football is the new national game, relegating baseball to a premature rest in the bleachers, it permeates every facet of American society and is the very embodiment of how Americans like to see themselves and their country.
It’s very much a man’s game …. or is it?
Apparently football is the fastest growing sport for women and there are a growing number of teams located all over the USA.
I will be documenting the inaugural season of the Connecticut Wreckers, who are based in Danbury and already training hard for the coming season.
These girls represent the furthest point on the spectrum from the NFL spectacular this coming weekend. They hold down regular jobs, pay to play, juggle their family commitments and risk the derision of the wider football community. However their courage, commitment and dedication is just mind boggling.
Over the next few months I plan, through the medium of my photography, to be able to celebrate their athleticism and determination – watch this space and let me know what you think
Ok so I’m back from a lovely break in England and ready to tackle 2012 head on.

An exciting new strand to my business this year will be the introduction of a range of limited edition prints featuring many of the beautiful landscapes that surround us all on a daily basis.
